THE ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN'S INSTITUTE of AUSTRALIA


The Electronic Technicians Institute of Australia TETIA) was founded in 1956 as the Television and Electronic Technicians Institute of Australia, to provide professional support and recognition for radio tradesmen and engineers who had undertaken extra study and training in the fields of television and commercial electronics. The name was changed in 1983 to reflect the fact that television is now only a small part of the electronics industry and that electronics technicians are employed in a wide range of industries throughout the community and industry.

ORGANISATION
TETIA currently has four State Divisions, in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. Members in Queensland and ACT are attached to the NSW Division and Tasmania are attached to the Victoria Division. The Institute is Incorporated under a Federal Council (A.C.N. 004 562 449) which provides overall guidance for the Divisions. Subject to such Federal guidance, each Division is free to establish its own agenda and to conduct its own affairs as best suits its situation.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership of the Institute is restricted to persons of good repute who have (a) gained an appropriate certificate after an approved course of study at a college of TAFE, in an armed services trade school or other similar tertiary institution and (b) have not less than five years full time experience in the electronic service industry. Associate membership is open to persons who have one or other but not both of the above qualifications, and Student Membership is open to persons undertaking an approved course of instruction, apprenticeship etc.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of the Institute is to help and encourage members to improve their technical skills and knowledge. Members are expected to maintain their competence by continued study and attendance at technical lectures and seminars etc. Members maintain an informal network of expertise by which new or unusual information can be exchanged among their number.

ETHICS
The Institute demands of its members the highest level of ethical conduct within the community and provides a medium for the investigation and settlement of complaints against its members by individual citizens or public bodies.


TELEVISION ELECTRONIC SERVICES ASSOCIATION


TESA was founded in 1956 in New South Wales which over the years offices were establishes in all states in Australia. Each state office follows the same Code of Practice and business ethics, but are totally independent of each other, the name of the association is used by consent of the founder office in New South Wales.
TESA is therefore a national. Non-profit organisation. It is run by elected members in each state. TESA provides a cohesive interface between consumers, manufacturers and service companies and their technicians.
Membership is offered to all service companies in the electronics industry from small owner operates to larger organisations.

Our Mission.
To promote the service industry to the Consumer, manufacturer and Government Authorities and to fellow Member Service Organisations such as TETIA and CETA, according to the TESA Code of Ethics.

TESA 's Aims.

  • Promote Fair trading within the industry
  • To increase and improve awareness of the service industry and TESA
  • To influence government policies and decision making, in the interest of the public for promoting professionalism and fair trading
  • To achieve effective communication and positive working relationships with related professional organisations, as mentioned previously.
  • Maintain the highest quality an service standards consistent with value for money
  • Investigate complaints promptly, whilst aiming for a satisfactory solution for all parties concerned.
  • To promote a level of technical competence within the industry.

TESA Provides for its Members.
Technical Support and education to keep members informed on the changing technology of electronics.
Advertising, Qualified members are able to incorporate the TESA logo on their business stationery and advertisements, as well as Gold Status symbol. The Gold Status level may be achieved following a qualification period.
Monthly Newsletters or magazines keeping members informed on monthly meetings where guest speakers are invited to speak on the technical developments and business management.
Savings on insurance policies can be made through a group arrangement with leading insurers.
Industry seminars held at least once a year as well as in conjunction with TETIA every two years a national convention is arranged.
Industrial awards, information is available on Federal and State awards applying to technicians working in the industry.
A consumer advice line is available for use during normal office hours.
